To support this mission, Syngenta's Trait Assessment team is seeking a bTrait Assessment Technician /b in bEl Ejido, Spain /b. /p pThis role will support the delivery of bphytopathology research and new variety development /b by performing essential laboratory, greenhouse, and growth room operations. The successful candidate will work in state‑of‑the‑art facilities, conducting trials and tests that contribute to the optimization of trait assessment protocols and the advancement of disease‑resistant crop varieties. /p h3Accountabilities /h3 h3Phytopathology Research Trial Execution /h3 ul liExecute phytopathology assays following established protocols under the guidance of Research Associates and Scientists. /li liPerform a wide range of tasks including data collection, trial preparation, pathogen maintenance, inoculum preparation, inoculation, and phenotyping of routine tests. /li liConduct plant maintenance activities in controlled environments such as labs, growth rooms, and greenhouses. /li /ul h3Laboratory Inventory Management /h3 ul liManage lab consumables and inventory efficiently, ensuring optimal stock levels and timely replenishment. /li liMaintain equipment according to instructions and proactively signal any malfunctions or maintenance needs. /li /ul h3Data Management Documentation /h3 ul liCapture, enter, and report data accurately using MS Word, Excel, and other relevant software according to internal standards. /li liMaintain precise documentation to support decision‑making in new variety development. /li /ul h3Biosafety HSE Compliance /h3 ul liOperate in modern infrastructure according to best biosafety and HSE practices at all times. /li liDemonstrate individual responsibility for health and safety, acting in a safe manner and complying with safe systems of work. /li liLook out for the safety of colleagues and contribute to a culture of safety excellence. /li /ul h3Cross‑Functional Collaboration /h3 ul liCollaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure optimal operation of the Trait Assessment department. /li liAddress issues and deviations from standards by working closely with the team. /li liCommunicate effectively in an RD environment, asking questions for clarification and informing about potential delays or quality issues. /li /ul h3Qualifications /h3 h3Education Experience /h3 ul liBachelor’s degree, technical diploma, or vocational qualification in Agronomy, Agriculture, Plant Science, Crop Production, Plant Health, or a related field. /li liAround 2–3 years of hands‑on experience in a laboratory‑based plant pathology, phenotyping, seed testing, or trait assessment environment, with practical experience supporting disease resistance evaluation, plant trait scoring, sample handling, inoculation support, or controlled‑environment phenotyping trials. /li liExperience working in controlled environments, greenhouses, growth chambers, laboratories, or field trial conditions. /li liExperience following technical protocols, collecting observations, and recording accurate data. /li /ul h3Technical Skills Knowledge /h3 ul liBasic knowledge of plant biology, crop development, and phytopathology. /li liUnderstanding of phenotyping processes, such as visual scoring, symptom assessment, disease severity evaluation, plant performance observations, or trait data collection. /li liAbility to follow detailed protocols for trial preparation, plant handling, inoculation support, sampling, scoring, and data capture. /li liGood digital skills, including MS Office, especially Excel, and ability to use datasheets or digital data collection tools such as Smartsheet, tablets, or trial management systems. /li liAbility and willingness to learn new phenotyping methods, greenhouse processes, and digital tools through training and self‑learning. /li /ul h3Core Competencies /h3 ul liStrong attention to detail and commitment to reliable, high‑quality data. /li liPractical, hands‑on mindset with good organization and planning skills. /li
