Groundsman / Gardener \n We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Groundsman/Gardener to help maintain our attractive school estate and grounds. \n Working as part of the Facilities Team, you will be responsible for helping maintain extensive gardens, lawns, sports areas and outdoor spaces to a high standard while supporting the day-to-day operation of the school site. \n This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, and is happy to support the wider facilities team whenever required. \n\n • Up to £31,000\n, • Full-time, Permanent\n, • 40 hours per week\n, • ASAP\n\n Benefits \n\n • Pension scheme\n, • Ongoing training and professional development\n, • Employee Assistance Programme\n, • Complimentary lunch during term time\n, • Tea and coffee provided\n, • Access to on-site facilities (where applicable)\n, • Supportive working environment\n\n Key Responsibilities \n\n • Assist in maintaining lawns using appropriate machinery including mowers, strimmers, edging tools and scarifiers.\n, • Assist with general facilities and maintenance duties across the site.\n, • Maintain records relating to Health & Safety and COSHH.\n, • Plant, water and maintain seasonal bedding displays, hanging baskets and containers.\n, • Maintain shrubs, hedges, herbaceous borders and fruit trees.\n, • Weed, cultivate and improve planted areas.\n, • Keep paths, roads, entrances, fire exits and walkways clear of leaves, debris, snow and ice.\n, • Maintain the greenhouse and gardening equipment.\n, • Safely apply herbicides, pesticides and fertilisers where appropriate.\n, • Collect plants, materials and supplies using company vehicles where required.\n, • Drive school vehicles (including minibus where appropriately licensed and authorised).\n, • Provide cover for the Groundsman during periods of absence.\n, • Assist with setting up events, moving furniture and supporting school functions.\n, • Assist with swimming pool maintenance where required.\n, • Keep the site free from litter and debris.\n, • Suggest improvements to planting schemes and site presentation.\n, • Carry out basic maintenance of machinery and ensure equipment is kept safe, secure and serviceable.\n, • Report maintenance issues and health & safety concerns promptly to the Facilities Manager.\n, • Maintain and repair fencing where required.\n, • Clean and maintain ponds and other external features.\n, • Prepare logs for internal fireplaces where applicable.\n, • Attend occasional evening or weekend events when required (overtime paid where applicable).\n\n Person Specification \n Essential \n\n • Previous gardening or grounds maintenance experience.\n, • Good practical maintenance skills.\n, • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.\n, • Good level of physical fitness.\n, • Full UK driving licence.\n, • Good awareness of Health & Safety procedures.\n, • Reliable, organised and flexible approach.\n\n Desirable \n\n • Experience working within a school or educational environment.\n, • PA1/PA6 spraying certificates.\n, • Machinery maintenance experience.\n, • Experience driving a minibus.\n, • First Aid qualification.\n
