ppHello! At Factorial, we're looking for an bEngineering Manager who wants to get their hands dirty /b - someone who leads teams but stays close to the work, understands the domain deeply, and cares about shipping things that actually matter. /p pWe're at an interesting moment. AI isn't a feature we're adding to our product - it's changing how the product works. That means rethinking how we design and build software from the ground up, moving from deterministic systems to AI-powered workflows that help real businesses run better every day. It's genuinely hard, and it's genuinely exciting. /p pIf you're someone who gets energy from working closely with the business, growing engineers around you, and using AI not as a buzzword but as a real tool to build better products faster - we'd love to meet you. /p h3Ready to be part of the challenge? /h3 h3About The Team /h3 pOur Engineering team is the engine behind Factorial, crafting the tech that makes HR simple, fast, and reliable for thousands of companies. If you love solving hard problems and want to build something that truly matters, come build it with us. /p pWe're a team of b200+ Product Engineers /b building Business Management solution that actually works for the people using it. Our core stack is Ruby on Rails and React but the interesting work right now is what we're building on top of that: agentic workflows, LLM-integrated features, systems that behave probabilistically rather than deterministically. /p pWe believe that bstrong fundamentals, adaptability, and the ability to leverage modern tools, including AI are what truly matter /b. /p h3What are we looking for? /h3 ul liYou've managed people before and helped engineers grow, ideally beyond your own level. /li liYou've been part of hiring processes and have a track record of bringing strong people into your teams. /li liYou're comfortable working across teams and contributing to shared platform and service foundations. /li liYou engage in honest, Socratic discussions focused on finding the best solution, not winning the argument. /li /ul h3Experience And Technical Depth /h3 ul li5+ years as a Full-stack engineer or similar role. /li li3+ years leading engineering teams. /li liStrong experience designing APIs (REST, GraphQL, etc.) and building integrations. /li liYou understand scalability, performance, and quality as real constraints and have dealt with them in production. /li /ul h3Business Mindset /h3 pBeing a great Engineering Manager at Factorial means caring about more than the code. You understand the business context behind what you're building and can connect technical decisions to real outcomes for customers and the company. /p ul liYou're curious about how the business works and use that understanding to make better technical calls. /li liYou push your team to understand the problem deeply before jumping to solutions. /li liYou think in terms of customer value, not just technical deliverables. /li liYou're comfortable talking to stakeholders, asking hard questions, and challenging assumptions when something doesn't add up. /li liYou know when to ship something imperfect and when to slow down and get it right. /li /ul h3AI-Native Engineering and Product Mindset /h3 pWe expect Engineering Managers to lead teams building AI-powered products, not just use AI tools on the side. /p ul liYou treat AI as a core part of modern software engineering, not something you bolt on at the end. /li liYou've built or contributed to AI-powered features or workflows that made it to production. /li liYou know what good AI development looks like in practice: defining behaviour and success criteria before you build, measuring output quality, grounding systems in real data, designing workflows that can take safe and auditable actions, and knowing when to keep humans in the loop. /li liYou use AI-assisted tools to move faster in your day-to-day, whether that's coding, testing, debugging, or documentation. /li liYou can help your team review, validate, and safely ship AI-generated code and behaviours. /liliYou understand the real limitations of LLM-based systems: hallucinations, evaluation challenges, data sensitivity. /li liYou create space for experimentation and fast learning loops within your team. /li liYou spot opportunities where AI can genuinely simplify something complex and create real value for users. /li /ul h3What You’ll Be Doing? /h3 ul liYou'll start with a buddy who guides you through some non-critical tasks to get comfortable with the codebase. /li liYou'll learn the business, the full customer journey, and work with the team to draft a roadmap. /li liYou'll join weekly team meetings to discuss priorities and bring new ideas to the table. /li liYou'll review the RFCs your team produces, give feedback, and push for the best way to get things done. /li liYou'll hire as the team grows, making sure we bring in people who are both talented and good-hearted. /li liYou'll constantly look for ways to improve how the team works. /li liYou'll run weekly 1:1s focused on the development and well-being of each person on your team. /li liYou'll work with other engineering managers to coordinate initiatives that cut across teams. /li liYou'll help lead the shift to AI-native product development, not by mandating tools, but by setting the example, asking the right questions, and creating the space for your team to experiment and learn. /li liYou'll convince or get convinced. You'll hear that a lot. /li /ul h3How We Work (Barcelona, Madrid or A Coruña Office) /h3 pAt Factorial, we believe the best products are built when people come together, in person to collaborate, challenge ideas, and move fast. That’s why our Engineering Teams follows an boffice-first, flexible schedule /b. /p pWe work bon-site several days a week /b, using that time to connect, align, and innovate as a team. However, we also understand the importance of focus and flexibility, so we support bremote work when it makes sense /b - whether for deep work, personal needs, or just a change of scenery. /p pThis balance helps us stay agile, creative, and closely connected, while giving everyone the space to do their best work. /p pAt Factorial we don’t evaluate you by years of experience but by your knowledge and skills. /p pWe use our bCareer Path /b with a rubric framework where we define what is expected for each experience level and skill. This framework allows you to know your current level and what you need to keep growing. We love transparency, so our Career Path includes the salaries for each level, which we share during the first interview to ensure alignment. /p h3Our Hiring Process /h3 ul liIntro Call → Chat with our Talent Partner about your journey and goals. /li liHiring Manager Interview → Deep dive into your product mindset, teamwork, and problem-solving. /li liLive Challenge → A collaborative technical exercise based on real-life problems. /li liFinal Coffee Chat → A relaxed conversation with our CTO VP of Engineering to explore our vision, culture, and your growth. /li /ul pAnd that’s it! Feel free to request any other conversations you want, with team members or to address specific concerns at any time in the process.
