ph3Overview /h3pThe IAC (Tenerife, Spain) invites applications for SIX PhD fellowships in Astrophysics. The research topics pursued at the IAC include Solar Physics, Planetary Systems, Stellar and Interstellar Physics, Galaxy Formation and Evolution, Milky Way and Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics. These are supported by an instrumentation programme. The IAC has been selected as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence in research by the Spanish Government. Further information about the IAC's research programme, its Observatories and the 10.4 m telescope GTC is available on the IAC website. /ppThe successful candidates will work at the IAC's headquarters in La Laguna, Tenerife, in a stimulating research environment. They will be expected to join one of the IAC's research groups and work towards obtaining a PhD. /p h3Qualifications /h3ulliTo be considered, applicants must have a degree in Physics, Mathematics or Engineering. /liliThe degree must satisfy the admission requirements of the University of La Laguna (ULL) PhD Programme in astrophysics, in which the student must register. Requirements are satisfied by applicants with an MSc, or by those with an Undergraduate Degree who have already obtained at least 300 credits (ETCs) of which at least 60 credits correspond to an MSc Degree. Other ways to fulfil the ULL requirements are possible; see the ULL website for details. /liliThe candidates must satisfy the admission requirements by the deadline of this call. /liliApplicants may prove their eligibility to obtain the corresponding degree by submitting a personal academic certification showing completion of the required credits, along with proof of payment of the corresponding degree issuance fee. /liliFor degrees issued outside Spain but within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), the certification must be submitted accompanied by a certified translation into Spanish or English. /liliFor degrees issued outside the EHEA, the degree must be accompanied by a certified translation into Spanish or English, plus its corresponding equivalence certificate or accreditation credential. The accreditation or equivalence may be evidenced by proof of initiating the procedure. Any decision denying the application will be grounds for termination of the contract. /liliThe degree score must be 7.0/10 or higher and 7.5 for bachelor degrees + Master Degree. /liliThe undergraduate or MSc degree required to register in the ULL PhD Programme must have been obtained on or since January 31, 2023. /li /ul h3Contract and Start Date /h3ulliDuration: The IAC offers four-year contracts that are yearly renewable based on a positive evaluation of the student’s progress and plan by the Graduate Students Division Board of the IAC. /liliPost-PhD training: Students who obtain their PhD before the contract ends may take up a Postdoctoral Training Period (POP) of up to 12 months, with a salary increase to bridge into the postdoctoral phase. /liliStart date: The successful PhD candidates will take up their position at IAC on a date to be determined, after October 15, 2025. /li /ul h3Remuneration and Financial Support /h3ulliRemuneration: Each year without POP (up to four years) /liliYear 1: 21,728.76 Euros /liliYear 2: 21,728.76 Euros /liliYear 3: 22,918.06 Euros /liliYear 4: 27,979.48 Euros (without POP) /liliExtra financial support to start the contract: Up to 2,500 Euros to cover reasonable relocation costs incurred within 14 days before contract start. Eligible categories include travel to Tenerife, two weeks of accommodation, and a per diem for 14 days. Reimbursement is limited to the listed categories and guided by tax rules. /li /ul h3Other Conditions /h3ulliNon-UE citizens: Non-EU nationals may apply, but contract signing is contingent on obtaining the required documentation to live and work in Spain (NIE). If needed, the certificate may be replaced by a complete file copy; the original must be presented on request. /liliImportant: If a degree is issued outside the country, specify maximum/minimum qualifications and the mark corresponding to pass. Convert grades to the local system if not graded in ECTS and provide translation into Spanish or English when necessary. /liliWhere applicable, provide translation for degrees issued outside the Spanish/EHEA frameworks and any required equivalence documents. Any denial by the competent authority may be grounds for contract termination. /liliOther required documents: CV (including fellowships, results, grants, merits), English language certificate (B1 or equivalent), documents supporting merits, Annex V (access to the Doctorate Programme), Annex VI (no previous contract with IAC), nationality verification exemptions, disability certificate (if applicable), dependent children certificate (if applicable). /li /ul pALL of the required documentation must be presented by the application deadline.
