ALBA is the Spanish synchrotron light source, a large research infrastructure operating ten beamlines, complementary facilities, and an Electron Microscopy Center. In partnership with other institutions, it is constructing additional beamlines, expanding the Electron Microscopy Center, and integrating advanced data analytics to address societal challenges. Location and Funding Located in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain), it is funded by the Spanish Government (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) and the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya, Departament de Recerca i Universitats). The 3 GeV synchrotron light produced by electron beams is used by thousands of researchers across diverse fields such as catalysis, health, energy, environment, communications, and cultural heritage. Position Overview We are looking for a mid‑to‑senior civil or construction engineer to serve as Work Package Leader for various construction projects within the ALBA II program, which includes new buildings, beamlines, accelerators, and laboratories. Responsibilities • Oversee and monitor civil engineering and construction projects from conceptual design to commissioning, including tendering processes when applicable., • Supervise and manage subcontracted companies handling civil engineering and construction tasks., • Develop new technical installations for beamlines, accelerators, and laboratories., • Prepare and manage financial budgets and project execution schedules for the work group., • Draft comprehensive project plans and technical specifications for construction‑related calls for tenders., • Provide support for facility maintenance operations in accordance with building and technical installation maintenance plans., • Support the design, maintenance, and operation of industrial control systems already installed at the Synchrotron facility., • Acquire deep technical knowledge of existing systems (HVAC, compressed air, de‑ionized water cooling) and perform failure diagnostics. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Building Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, or equivalent., • Minimum of 3 years of experience working on civil engineering and/or construction projects., • Demonstrated ability to oversee multi‑disciplinary projects and manage multiple contractors., • Strong knowledge of construction project lifecycles and tender processes., • Good command of English (minimum A2 level). Selection Process The selection will be carried out through a competition‑opposition system. The first phase evaluates the curriculum vitae, which is scored up to 40 points based on: • Master’s degree related to civil engineering, building engineering, or construction management – up to 10 points., • General training/experience as a civil engineer, construction manager, or construction engineer – up to 15 points., • Training/experience on drafting technical prescription sheets – up to 5 points., • Training on design of technical installations – up to 5 points., • English language level – up to 5 points (A2 level gives 5 points). Top scorers (at least two) will be invited to an interview, evaluated on technical competence, skills, and professional experience, with a total score of 60 points.
