Ivorypress is looking for an experienced Deputy Director to help shape the next phase of the organisation's development by leading the operational management of its bookshop, publishing activities, cultural programme and institutional relations. The ideal candidate will bring senior-level experience in bookshop management, along with a strong knowledge of the publishing, cultural and artists' books sectors. Key Responsibilities Bookshop Management • Manage and oversee the bookshop and its day-to-day operations., • Select, acquire and develop the bookstock, with a particular focus on architecture, art, design, photography, critical thought and related disciplines. • Maintain relationships with publishers, distributors, galleries, institutions and suppliers, nationally and internationally. • Identify new business lines and growth opportunities. Publishing • Lead and coordinate the publishing department., • Manage the team responsible for publications and artists' books., • Plan and monitor publishing projects., • Oversee publishing schedules, budgets and quality standards. Cultural Programme • Plan and oversee the cultural programme., • Organise book launches, lectures, exhibitions, book signings, talks and public events., • Build collaborations with cultural institutions and sector partners. Team Leadership • Lead and coordinate the bookshop, publishing and artists' books teams., • Set objectives, responsibilities and priorities., • Develop staff, manage performance, and team motivation., • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration and professional integrity. Financial and Administrative Management Working closely with the Finance, Human Resources and Administration departments, the Deputy Director will: • Prepare and monitor budgets., • Control income, expenditure and margins., • Track and report on business performance., • Plan operational resources., • Contribute to recruitment, staff development and workforce planning., • Ensure compliance with internal procedures. Institutional Relations • Represent Ivorypress to clients, collectors, authors, artists, institutions and partners., • Build strategic relationships across the publishing and cultural sectors, nationally and internationally. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Candidate Profile • University degree., • Senior experience in management and/or leadership roles within bookshops, publishing houses or cultural institutions. • Knowledge of the publishing industry and the book market., • Initiative, strong leadership skills, and experience in financial and team management., • Based in Madrid, or willing to relocate., • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as required. Languages • Full professional proficiency in spoken and written English., • Additional languages are considered an advantage.
